In addition to over 15 years of teaching experience as a private drum tutor I’ve also taught group courses to music BTEC students and I’m registered as a peripatetic music teacher for Exeter University’s music scholarship programme.

I teach 1 to 1 drum lessons at my studio near St. David’s Station and the University in Exeter (UK). Each hour lesson costs £30 and the minimum age requirement is 10 years.

New pupils are welcome to book a one off lesson to check my teaching suits their needs. You’re never tied into a string of lessons, but if you decide you want to reserve a regular lesson slot, these are available at weekly or fortnightly intervals.

Lessons are for all levels of player, from complete beginners picking up the drum sticks for their first time, through to drummers who have been playing for years but want to “brush up” on a few things, or gain some new ideas and inspiration.

The studio is equipped with everything a drummer could need to aid their learning including… A state of the art “hybrid” drumset featuring Roland’s “TD-30” module and Zildjian’s “Gen16” cymbals, an iMac for playback, internet access, recording and music notation software, a suitable P.A., a mirror (for checking posture & technique), and numerous instructional books & DVDs that compliment my own unique lesson files.

1 to 1 lessons will also grant you access to my ‘Student Zone’ webpage. This page contains additional video & audio downloads to help further develop material covered in your lessons.

I also play the bass guitar and piano which means I can accompany students, when necessary, to help them develop a better understanding of how to “lock in” with other players. This, along with relevant songs and backing tracks, helps to apply everything in the lessons to a musical context.
