With Will Beavis
In addition to over 20 years of teaching experience as a private drum tutor, I have also taught group courses to BTEC music students and as a peripatetic music teacher for Exeter University’s music scholarship programme.
I teach 1 to 1 drum lessons at my studio near St. David’s Station and the University in Exeter (UK). Each lesson lasts an hour and costs £30. The minimum age requirement is 10 years.
You are welcome to book a one off lesson to check that my teaching suits your needs. You are never tied into a string of lessons, but if you do decide you want to reserve a regular lesson slot, these are available at weekly or fortnightly intervals.
Lessons are for all levels of player, from complete beginners picking up the drum sticks for the first time, through to drummers who have been playing for years but want to “brush up” on a few things, or gain some new ideas and inspiration.
My studio is equipped with everything a drummer could need to aid their learning including: An acoustic/electric drumset featuring Pearl drums, Roland electronics and Zildjian cymbals. A Mac for playback, internet access, recording and music notation software. A suitable sound system, a mirror (for checking posture & technique) and numerous instructional books & videos that compliment my own custom lessons.
I also play the bass guitar and piano which means I can accompany students, when necessary, to help them develop a better understanding of how to play along with other musicians. This, along with relevant songs and backing tracks, helps to apply everything in the lessons to a musical context.
To book a lesson or ask any questions please get in touch via my contact page or Facebook.
Some of the topics that I teach include:
- Hand & Foot Technique
- Grooves (in various styles)
- Coordination / Independence
- Reading / Writing Music
- Drum Fills
- Music Theory
- Drum Set-up & Tuning
1 to 1 lessons also grants you access to my “Student Zone” webpage. A locked page containing additional video & audio downloads to help further develop the material covered in your lessons.
