Learn To Play The Drums in Exeter with Will Beavis
I teach private drum lessons at my studio, near St. David’s Station and the University of Exeter. Each lesson lasts an hour and costs £35. From beginners to advanced, the minimum age requirement is 10 years. Lessons are available on weekdays, evenings and Saturdays.
You do not have to commit to a string of lessons. You are welcome to book a single lesson to see how you get on, and find out whether you would like to continue. If you decide you want to reserve a regular lesson slot, these are available at weekly or fortnightly intervals.
I have been teaching the drums since 1998. In addition to my experience as a private drum tutor, I have also taught a music BTEC course at The Academy of Music & Sound and as a peripatetic music teacher for Exeter University’s music scholarship programme. I also have many years of live playing experience, touring all over the world, working with various bands and artistes.
More About The Lessons
Lessons are for all levels of player, from complete beginners picking up the drumsticks for the first time, through to drummers who have been playing for years but want to “brush up” on a few things, or gain some new ideas and inspiration.
Do not worry if you are brand new to the drums and have not yet got a drumset to practise on. It is a great idea to have some lessons first, to be sure that you are really enjoying learning the drums, before spending money on equipment. Plus, when it is time for you to purchase a set of drums, I will be happy to advise you on what to buy.
I also play the bass guitar and piano which means I can accompany you in lessons, when necessary, to help you develop a better understanding of how to play with other musicians. This, along with relevant songs and backing tracks, helps to apply everything in your lessons to a musical context.
The Lesson Studio
My studio is equipped with everything a drummer could need to aid their learning including: An acoustic/electric drumset featuring Pearl drums, Roland electronics and Zildjian cymbals. An Apple Mac for playback, internet access, recording and music notation software. A suitable sound system, a mirror (for checking posture & technique) and numerous instructional books & videos that compliment my own custom lessons.
Some of the topics that I teach include:
- Hand & Foot Technique
- Grooves (in various styles)
- Coordination / Independence
- Reading / Writing Music
- Drum Fills
- Music Theory
- Drum Set-up & Tuning
1 to 1 lessons also grants you access to my “Student Zone” webpage. A locked page containing additional video & audio downloads to help further develop the material covered in your lessons.
